My disposal hums but does not spin. Can it be fixed?
Yes. That is a stuck flywheel in most cases. A hex key in the bottom of the unit frees it in a few minutes.
It leaks at the bottom of the motor. Is that fixable?
A bottom-housing leak means the internal seal has failed and water has reached the motor. That is end of life. We will quote a replacement instead of a repair.
Should I run hot or cold water with the disposal?
Cold. Cold water solidifies grease so the impeller can break it down. Hot water melts grease and lets it coat the trap.
